Tokyo, Japan
Presenting artists: Andrea Bores and Carina Mask

In the spirit of creating a bridge between East and West within the realm of life and death, the ethereal and the material worlds, we are pairing Japanese-American artist Carina Mask’s perspective of death, transition, and ethereal imagery of places of spiritual significance in Japan, with the earthly, lively, and dynamic landscapes of Mexican artist Andrea Bores that depict matter as the component of life.

The liminal spaces where Mask finds thresholds between the physical and spiritual realms by capturing dense foliage and forests to evoke a sense of mystery and transition, are paired with Bores’ landscapes as a dynamic phenomenon delving into the elemental forces that shape and inhabit them, unveiling an unstable horizon, blurred by thermodynamic forces and turbulent structures. It is a conversation between a spiritual threshold of transcendence and a science-based dynamic of life forces.

The exhibition aims to open a conversation based on the works each artist has developed around the elements and the transformative potential of natural phenomena. Carina Mask’s stunning series of the fire purification rituals in Japan and the mysterious landscapes of Mount Fuji’s forests, are paired in conversation with Bores’ dynamic landscapes made of charcoal bringing the next step after fire consumes matter: carbon, the essential component of all living existence. The meeting of the tangible and the intangible, the endless cycle of creation.

Art Golden Gai is the takeover of this building in Shibuya, Tokyo, soon to be demolished, by 50 artists installing immersive art projects in the rooms. Produced by @superchiefgallerynft and @nox.gallery, we are proud to be part of this huge undertaking where scenic artist Amanda Hagy produced the common areas and invited us to take the back wall of the 7th floor themed as Burnout.
